 Testing Programmes

Pre-Event Testing

The Pre-Event Testing Programme is in a requirement of the Bermuda Government under the direction of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. This programme tests athletes and managing personnel for teams representing Bermuda overseas in competitions. This is meant to be include National Teams and Representative Teams participating in international competitions (regional, Olympic qualifying tournaments etc.)

Random Testing Programme

Athletes in the participating National Sports Governing Bodies, as a part of their membership are eligible to be random tested in the Illicit Drug Programme. This testing is performed on up to 10% of the eligible pool. The pool of athletes includes all of those as indicated by the National Sports Governing Bodies as being eligible. This list of athletes are submitted annually or as the National Sports Governing Bodies renew their membership (Section 3.5 of the Standard Operating Porocedure)

Athlete selection is performed on a random basis, however, should you be a member of more than one sport, your name is entered more than once in the pool, and you stand the chance of being called on more than once per year. All efforts are made to avoid this situation, however, there are no certanties (Section 3.6 of the Standard Operating Procedures).

Selected athletes will normally be contacted by the B.C.D.S. and informed to report for drug use control at a specific time and location (within 36 hours of notification). The athlete will normally be presented an Athlete Selection Order for signature at the time of reporting.

For Unannounced no notice drug use control, athletes will normally be contacted by a CDCO who will present the athlete with an Athlete Selection Order.
